25 Jul Dubai to kick off tender for 200-MW Concentrated Solar Power plant in H1 2017
Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) intends to launch the tender for the 200-MW Phase I of the 1-GW concentrated solar power (CSP) project in the emirate during the first half of 2017, a senior official told Zawya Projects.
Waleed Salman, executive vice president for strategy and business development, said as cited by the news provider that DEWA will soon pick consultants for the CSP project and that it plans to issue the request for proposal (RfP) for Phase I by the end of the year.
The CSP project will be implemented at the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, whose total capacity is seen at 5 GW. DEWA expects to complete the 200-MW initial installation by April 2021 and the whole solar thermal power complex by 2030.
When unveiling plans for the CSP portion earlier this month, DEWA’s head, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, explained that the plant will have several thousand heliostats located around a tower and that the project will use thermal storage for 8-12 hours daily.
